|TechShop Demonstrates Do-It-Yourself Dream Building with Machines and Tools at Maker Faire|
|DIY ideas come to life at world's largest annual maker festival May 22 & 23 in San Mateo, Calif.|
MENLO PARK, Calif.
, May 18, 2010 --
TechShop, the first membership-based DIY workshop and fabrication studio, will participate for the fifth time as an exhibitor at the annual Maker Faire in San Mateo, California. TechShop will be demonstrating how its members can make things on machines that range from manual mills and lathes, to laser cutters, plasma cutters and a 4-axis CNC milling machine. These tools form the core of the equipment that TechShop offers its DIY workshop members for a monthly access fee, similar to the fitness club model.
TechShop is a key sponsor of the Maker Faire Bay Area, along with other big names in innovation such as Ford Motor Company, Hewlett Packard, Livescribe, Jameco, Chevrolet, ShopBot, Epilog Laser and Lego Education. Maker Faire is the premier event for grassroots innovation, a place where "makers" meet. The family-friendly event is for creative people of all ages and skill levels, and offers two days of exhibits, activities, instruction and information from a wide variety of vendors. The event is projected to attract over 90,000 people from all over the Bay Area who want to marvel and be inspired by the world of "making".
"Think of TechShop as a piece of Maker Faire that's available all year long," said Dale Dougherty, editor and publisher of MAKE Magazine and founder of the Maker Faire, regarding the role TechShop plays at Maker Faire.
"If you're inspired to explore what you can do, join others like you at TechShop." "TechShop is the place where dreams are built ... quite literally," said Jim Newton, who founded TechShop in 2006. "Our mission at TechShop is to engage, encourage and empower everyone to build their dreams. Our mission is directly in-line with what the Maker Faire was created to do. TechShop provides a broad array of machines and tools, instruction, and a supportive environment to hobbyists, entrepreneurs, artists, and others who want to make things but lack the tools, space or skills. TechShop is for everyone, and so is the Maker Faire. If someone wants to become a maker, I tell them that they should visit the Maker Faire for inspiration and ideas, and then come to TechShop to make their dreams a reality."
